Hummus is one of the healthiest and yummiest foods, but the one that you buy in the supermarkets is often made with inflammatory seed oils, flavorings and other dubious ingredients.

“To be healthy, hummus has to be made in the right way.”

What makes a healthy hummus?

  • High quality, Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
  • Chickpeas or any other legume ( possibly organic)
  • Tahini paste ( sesame paste)
  • Lemon juice
  • Garlic (optional)

Hummus is super easy to make..

The good point about hummus is that it is extremely easy to make. All you need are the ingredients above and a blender. That’s it.

Then of course you can more ingredients to make it more tasty, like roasted peppers, harissa paste or roasted vegetables like carrots and pumpkin. The choice is ample.

Once you muster the classical hummus version then you can customize your own.

Why makes hummus so healthy

  • Healthy fats, with Omega 3
  • Vitamin E
  • Fibers
  • Polyphenols
  • Vegetable proteins

It is super easy to make and It is delicious with either raw and roasted vegetables, salads, falafels, it is perfect as a snack, and a great addition to any impromptu dinner with friends.

I thought of posting the basic version, that can be enriched in many ways (more posts to come on this).

Hummus bought from the store can contain unhealthy and inflammatory seed oils, and other dubious flavorings, and be devoid of the nutritional benefits of homemade hummus.

How to make a healthy hummus recipe

Classic Hummus Recipe

How to make a classic hummus dip for the perfect healthy homemade snack.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Course Appetizer, Snack
Cuisine Healthy, Mediterranean
Servings 2


  • 1 can of chickpeas drained
  • 2 tbs of tahini sesame paste
  • 1 tbs of extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove optional
  • a pinch of sea salt


  • Simply put the chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, and spices in a blender
  • Blend it for 1 min or until you reach a creamy consistency.
  • If needed you can add a tbs of water.
  • Serve with a drizzle of olive oil.
